Welcome Note

Welcome to the Oxford CLIL Magazine! As Head of OUP España’s Bilingual department, I am delighted to share this publication with you, the teachers who tirelessly bring our materials to life in the classroom.

At Oxford University Press, we are committed to education and research, as well as to creating innovative teaching methodologies. With the increasing implementation of these new teaching methodologies and digitalisation in the classroom, INNOVATION is the obvious theme for our first magazine. And where better to put this into practice than in the CLIL classroom?

Over the next few pages you will find interesting articles, interviews, spotlight reports and explanations and tips that we hope will help and inspire you as a teacher of English or CLIL core curricular subjects. These articles have been written by our authors, who are not only experts in this field, but also teachers themselves.

The experts who share anecdotes and advice in this publication invite you to understand the importance of Literacy, push the boundaries of the curriculum with fun, practical experiments and appreciate the benefits of starting language learning early.

We will also introduce you to our complete and unique CLIL catalogue that stretches from Pre-Primary all the way to Upper Secondary. This will help you to make the most of your time in the classroom and get the best out of your students. You will also discover our digital platforms, designed to facilitate your busy lives as teachers and your students’ independent study, and our supplementary materials, created to reinforce curricular content. And last, but by no means least, you will be the first to find out about the Professional Development opportunities that we have in store for you this year!

We understand the difficulties that teachers face these days, with strict curricular obligations, funding restrictions, diverse abilities in the classroom and high expectations from parents. We work hard to ensure that our products are interesting, enjoyable and innovative, in order to support both you and your students every step of the way.

I invite you to join us for tips on how to introduce a new content language to very young learners, how to cope with diversity in the classroom, what motivates Secondary students and much, much more!

Wishing you the very best in 2018,
Janet Wilson-Smith
